SGS Alumni Administrative Structure
Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees serves as the custodian of all properties, assets, and legal interests of the Association. The BoT acts in accordance with the Association’s Constitution and applicable laws, serving as the legal personality in dealings with government, courts, and external organizations. Shams-El-Deen Grammar School Alumni Association BoT holds and manage all assets and funds in trust, ensure compliance of all branches, mergers or dissolution, represent the Association in legal matters, provide oversight on financial accountability, resolve disputes, sanction or dissolve branches acting contrary to objectives, and advise the Central Executive Council and branches. The BoT consists of not fewer than five and not more than Eleven members, drawn from distinguished alumni of Shams-El-Deen Grammar School with integrity, leadership, and commitment.
Central Parliamentary Council (CPC)
The Central Parliamentary Council is the legislative and parliamentary organ of the Association responsible for debating, reviewing, and enacting policies, rules, and resolutions.
Central Executive Council (CEC)
The Central Executive Council is the administrative and policy-making organ of the Association, responsible for day-to-day management, subject to BoT oversight.
Central Judiciary Council (CJC)
The Central Judicial Council is the disciplinary organ of the Association, responsible for interpreting the Constitution, adjudicating disputes, and enforcing discipline among members.
Branch Executive Council (BEC)
BEC leads branches to promote the Association’s objectives locally, organize meetings, reunions, and events, maintain membership records and financial accounts.
Community of Practices (CoP)
SGS Alumni in Diaspora
The SGS Alumni in Diaspora is a Community of Practice (CoP) within the Shams‑El‑Deen Grammar School (SGS) Alumni Association, comprising alumni who reside outside Nigeria.
As a Community of Practice, SGS Alumni in Diaspora provides a structured platform for engagement, collaboration, and inclusion of overseas members in the affairs of the Association. It enables alumni living abroad to remain actively connected to SGS Alumni activities, contribute their experiences and perspectives, and participate meaningfully in the development of the Association and its alma mater. Some of the activities of this community of practice include, helping members secure admission to colleges overseas, onboarding new members abroad and assist with settling down.
Citizen Developers
The SGS Alumni Citizen Developers is a Community of Practice (CoP) within the Shams‑El‑Deen Grammar School (SGS) Alumni Association, comprising alumni who leverage digital tools, low‑code/no‑code platforms, automation, and data solutions to solve problems, improve processes, and drive innovation within the Association and the wider community.
As a Community of Practice, SGS Alumni Citizen Developers brings together non‑traditional software developers and technology‑inclined professionals who share a common interest in using accessible digital technologies to create practical solutions without the need for advanced programming expertise. The community promotes learning‑by‑doing, peer collaboration, and responsible innovation.
Health Care Practitioners
The SGS Alumni Health Care Practitioners (SGS‑HCP) is a Community of Practice (CoP) within the Shams‑El‑Deen Grammar School (SGS) Alumni Association, comprising alumni who are professionals and practitioners in the health and allied health sectors.
This Community of Practice brings together alumni working as medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, laboratory scientists, public health professionals, community health workers, health administrators, and other allied health practitioners. It provides a structured platform for professional collaboration, knowledge sharing, and collective contribution to health‑related initiatives within the SGS Alumni community.
Society of Engineers
The SGS Alumni Society of Engineers (SGS‑ASE) is a Community of Practice (CoP) within the SGS Alumni Association, comprising alumni who are engineers and engineering professionals across diverse disciplines, industries, and geographical locations.
As a Community of Practice, the SGS Alumni Society of Engineers is a structured yet voluntary network of practitioners who share a common professional identity in engineering and are committed to continuous learning, knowledge sharing, professional excellence, and collective problem‑solving. Members interact regularly to exchange experiences, best practices, innovations, and lessons learned, with the goal of advancing both individual competence and collective capability.
Likeminds For Tourism
The SGS Alumni Likeminds for Tourism is a Community of Practice (CoP) within the SGS Alumni Association, bringing together alumni who share a common interest or professional engagement in tourism, hospitality, travel, culture, heritage, and destination development.
As a Community of Practice, SGS Alumni Likeminds for Tourism serves as a knowledge‑sharing and collaboration platform where members connect to exchange ideas, experiences, and insights related to tourism‑driven economic development, cultural promotion, and sustainable travel initiatives. The community is practice‑focused, voluntary, and driven by shared passion rather than administrative hierarchy.
Union of Teachers
The SGS Alumni Union of Teachers (SGS‑AUT) is a Community of Practice (CoP) within the Shams‑El‑Deen Grammar School (SGS) Alumni Association, comprising alumni who are professional teachers, lecturers, educators, academic administrators, trainers, and education practitioners.
As a Community of Practice, the SGS Alumni Union of Teachers provides a collaborative, knowledge‑driven platform where members share professional experience, pedagogical knowledge, and best practices in teaching and learning. The Union exists to promote excellence in education, strengthen the teaching profession, and contribute meaningfully to the academic development of SGS and the wider community.
