The Origin of SGS ALCON – A Vision of Unity
The man with the Vision
The SGS Alumni Conference (SGS ALCON) was born from the bold vision of our visionary leader, Engr. (Dr.) IDOWU Hamed Ademayowa, whose dream was to unite all graduating sets of the Shams‑El‑Deen Grammar School Alumni Association under one umbrella of shared purpose, progress, and togetherness.
In 2021, during the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the 1991/92 Set, a pivotal moment in the history of the Association emerged. As the celebrations gained momentum, the President proposed a transformational idea: That all sets should begin to celebrate together, grow together, and move forward as one united alumni family.
However, this unifying proposal was rejected by the leadership of the 1991/92 Set, who preferred to retain their exclusive celebration arrangement. But driven by conviction and unwavering dedication to his vision, Engr. (Dr.) Hamed Idowu refused to let the dream of unity fade.
To ensure inclusiveness and fulfil the mission of oneness: The President personally lobbied the management of the event centre. He sought permission to allow other alumni branches to use a designated space within the facility to host a joint end‑of‑year celebration, On approval, he unilaterally made payment for the space. It was a bold and courageous step, one that would open the doors to a historic turning point.
Five branches accepted the call for unity
These pioneering sets participated in what became known as the SGS ALCON, a gathering that demonstrated the strength, harmony, and collective identity of the SGS Alumni community when brought together.
And truly… The rest was history.
From that single courageous step, SGS ALCON grew into the largest annual alumni gathering, evolving into the powerful, colourful, week‑long conference we now celebrate with pride. Today, SGS ALCON stands as a living testament to: Visionary leadership, Courage to challenge the status quo, Commitment to unity and the unstoppable spirit of the SGS family.
